Stress & Acne

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

You can always tell when my cousin is stressed because her face will break out with acne. Even though she’s in her mid-twenties, sometimes it still happens, which causes even more stress and embarrassment for her. But stress can do that to anyone, as it puts a toll on our systems. Stress really actually can make your acne worse.

So if you need to relax, try taking deep breaths. Deep breaths help clear the mind, bring fresh oxygen into our bodies and rejuvenates us. However, don’t do this while doing something that requires your concentration, like driving or taking a test, since deep breaths can also make you a little light headed if done for too long. But either way, beat that stress to help lessen acne breakouts.

Dermatologists & Acne Treatments

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

My friend had pretty serious acne, and after a couple years, he finally decided to go do something about it. But instead of going to a dermatologist, he decided to do it himself. He bought all kinds of stuff and took it home and tried it out. But because his skin was so sensitive (part of his skin’s sensitivity was causing all the acne), he came to school the next day even more red and blotchy than ever.

Skin is a pretty complicated organ (it’s also the largest organ of our body!), and when you need to treat serious acne (not just the occasional pimple), take the time to find a good dermatologist. They’re trained in these kinds of things and can really help you find what you need to clear up your face. Sometimes, we think we can go it alone, but a lot of times, we may end up doing more damage to our skin than helping. So swallow that pride and call up the dermatologist! You won’t regret it.

Hair & Acne

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I went over to my friend’s house one day for the night. After a long evening of playing video games, watching movies, eating junk food and playing more video games, we decided to turn in for the night. As I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom, I watched him dip his head underneath the bathtub faucet and wash his hair out very carefully.

Why did he do this? Turns out that keeping your hair free of dirt and oils can also help keep your face clear of it. Think about how often your hair touches your face! If your hair is dirty, all that dirt and oil is clogging your pores on your face and causing you to break out. It’s important to not touch your face and to wash it, but especially at night, as you toss and turn in your sleep, your hair is being pressed into your face. It doesn’t matter if you washed your face before bed – your hair will make sure it didn’t even matter if you haven’t washed it too.

So if your face acne is bothering you, try washing your face and your hair every night. You may begin to see results!

Does Tanning Fight Acne?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I had a friend who had a mild case of acne. I never thought it was as horrible as she described it, but apparently it would ruin her life forever. To combat this, she would often tan to try and hide the acne – after all, it almost seems to blend in with darker skin, right?

Unfortuantely, it appeared this wasn’t the best solution in the world. You see, tanning can actually cause acne to get even worse and spread! In short, tanning is only a temporary path in hiding acne. And while it hides the acne (though not perfectly, as anyone can attest to you who has tried this), the acne itself is still there and is probably only getting worse. Does that sound like a solution to you? I hope not!

This goes for people who don’t dliberately get tanned to hide their acne. Stay out of the sun to avoid getting worse acne, and hopefully you’ll be able to prevent any acne from worsening. try wearing a wide brimmed hat if you’re going to be in the sun, as shade will help the sun from doing as much damage to your skin.

Acne Myths

Monday, August 31st, 2009

There are truths and myths surrounding many of the things that cause us a dilemma. Weight loss, fashion…but most of all, acne! There are two basic facts on acne that many people do not fully know the truth about.

For acne prone skin, light make up is recommended. If you have a bad case of acne, because most cosmetics have alcohol and chemicals in it it will irritate you skin and it will sting a bit. And that is why people think it is bad for them and turn to lighter cosmetics. But! Light make up is not the key. In actual fact, no matter how thin or thick your make up is, your makeup should be of oil-free nature. But the most important of all would be to find the make up that matches your skin type.

Acne does not spread from people to people. Touching the face of someone with acne and then touching your own skin would not cause acne to suddenly burst out onto your skin. Ance does not spread on contact. When you pop the acne, a new acne may form on that spot or near that spot but not on places you have touched with your hand after popping it
